Get Precise With Your Dinks
What does it take to win a pro pickleball point? You might think power and speed, but for the worldâs top two teams, the keys are patience and precision.
Podcast host, Matty Pickles, is changing the game with pickleball data visualizations. One of his recent creations is mapping out shot locations at the kitchen line. The technique allows you to see exactly where each dink is landing and makes it easier to recognize patterns in play.
A recent video demonstrates how the Johns Bros used a strategy of consistent dinks to JW Johnsonâs backhand to lead to a win at the PPA Championships.
Not so surprisingly, Riley Newman and Hayden Patriquin employed a nearly identical strategy to beat Frazier/Johnson last weekend. They must be subscribed to Mattyâs Channel.
If you have game tape of your matches, trying mapping out your own kitchen play. Itâs a great way to see if your strategy is working out as planned and identify any patterns being used against you.
Florida's Newest Pickleball Hangout is Going Big
Sick of fighting the weather? Thereâs hope yetâThe Pickleball Club could turn into your ideal hangout.
They opened their first club in Sarasota last May, and with six more locations in the works across Florida, theyâre setting out to make premium, weather-proof indoor courts a reality. Itâs all part of a bigger vision to keep up with the explosive demand for pickleballâespecially among the 55+ crowd thatâs been driving the sportâs rapid growth.
With membership perks, lessons, events, and even merchandise, The Pickleball Club is more than just a courtâitâs a community built for year-round play.
And while theyâre focused on making the sport accessible to players, thereâs also an investment angle: The Pickleball Clubâs private offering for accredited investors taps into the financial potential of a sport that just keeps growing.
One Mayorâs Pickleball Vendetta
In North Saanich Britsh Columbia, Mayor Peter Jones has a bone to pick with pickleball. Thereâs an ongoing battle between him and the Peninsula Community Pickleball Club (PCPC) that is on its way to the Supreme Court of BC.
Letâs take a quick look at the timeline:
2017 - The District Council of North Saanich (British Columbia, Canada) approved the installation of four courts in Wain Park, for an approximate cost of $150k-$200k
April 29th, 2024 - Mayor Peter Jones, seemingly out of nowhere, made a motion at a council meeting to permanently close the courts, due to noise complaints from neighbors. The motion passed, 5-1
Hereâs the kicker, the Wain Park pickleball courts were not scheduled to be discussed at the April 29th meeting. A few days later, it was revealed that the Mayor had visited the courts the night prior and had an altercation with the players while trying to get them to vacate the courts.
July 26th, 2024 - The PCPC filed their case for a judicial review by the Supreme Court of BC
The judicial review will take place December 2nd and 3rd, and the pickleball petitioners and the District of North Saanich will learn the fate of these highly contentious pickleball courts. Read the full story here.
What to Watch at the Milwaukee Open
The PPA heads up north to Milwaukee for one of the last events of the year. Donât worry about cold temps and cracked balls, this one will be played indoors at the Baird Convention Center.
Resting Up
After a long 2024 season, the tourâs top dogs are sitting this one out. Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters will both be absent along with Catherine Parenteau, JW Johnson, and Christian Alshon.
Triple Crown Watch
With ALW out of the picture, Anna Bright is on triple crown watch. She will participate in singles tomorrow and has an intriguing first-round matchup with Genie Bouchard.
Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher are the heavy favorites in the womenâs doubles division and we will see the long lost mixed partnership with Dylan Frazier giving Bright a great shot at gold.
Menâs Doubles Mystery
Last weekâs champs, Riley Newman/Hayden Patriquin, have a shot at back-to-back titles to end the year. Theyâll have to navigate a bracket that includes Federico Staksrud/Gabe Tardio and Quang Duong/Dylan Frazier.
The Milwaukee Open is the last chance for players to earn points ahead of the PPA Finals in December. See who has a little extra motivation to win and Erik Ticeâs predictions for the weekend here.
